Our Story

The Beginning: A Health Crisis Becomes a Mission

Every company has an origin story. Ours begins not in a boardroom, not with a business plan, but with a woman who was unwell and determined to get better.

Jody Ahrens was facing debilitating health challenges that conventional approaches were not resolving. Rather than accepting that this was simply how life would be, she started asking harder questions — about modern food, about soil, about what was missing from the way most of us eat.

What she found was a revelation — and the seed of everything Vital Earth Minerals became.

Our Timeline

2000 — Founded on Purpose

Jody’s research brought her to a profound discovery: the trace minerals that had once been naturally present in food grown in biologically rich soil had been largely stripped away by modern agricultural practices. The fulvic and humic compounds produced over millions of years as ancient plant matter decomposed deep in the earth — compounds that historically entered our diets through the food we ate — were now largely absent from the modern food supply.

She found a source that had been untouched by that depletion: a freshwater humate deposit in the Southwest United States, more than 25 feet below the earth’s surface, where ancient plant matter had concentrated for millions of years, protected from surface contamination by both depth and geology.

Together, Jody and Rhonda Ahrens founded Vital Earth Minerals in 2000, beginning production in Grand Junction, Colorado — at the foot of the Colorado National Monument.

2000–2021 — Building a Community, One Bottle at a Time

The early years of Vital Earth Minerals were not built on marketing campaigns. They were built on word of mouth — on customers who noticed a difference, told their families, and came back month after month, year after year.

The process never changed. The source never changed. The commitment to small-batch production in Grand Junction — never changed.

2021 — A New Home for a Growing Mission

In 2018, Vital Earth Minerals moved into a new, purpose-built facility in Grand Junction. The move was a reflection of growth — more products, more customers, more capacity to fulfill the mission that started in 2000 — but it was not a change of direction.

The new facility operates as a cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) certified production environment. Every step of the production process is documented, quality-controlled, and auditable.

2023 — Expanding to Meet Growing Demand

In 2023, Vital Earth Minerals added a new warehouse to its Grand Junction campus — a direct response to the continued growth of a customer base that has found in our products what Jody was looking for back in 2000: a reliable, clean, honest source of the trace minerals modern diets no longer reliably provide.

Today — Rhonda’s Leadership and a Legacy That Endures

As Jody Ahrens steps back into a well-earned retirement, her daughter Rhonda Ahrens leads Vital Earth Minerals as its sole owner — carrying over 25 years of hard-earned knowledge, deep sourcing relationships, and an uncompromising commitment to quality into the company’s next chapter.

Vital Earth Minerals today is the same company it was in 2000 in all the ways that matter: the same source, the same process, the same commitment to third-party testing and cGMP standards, and the same honest relationship with customers who trust us with their health.

Our Values: What Has Never Changed

Honesty — We tell you what is in our products, where it comes from, how it is made, and what the research actually shows.

Source integrity — Our humate is sourced from a single, known, tested freshwater deposit. The source material is never reused between batches.

Process integrity — Our gentle, unhurried process is slower and yields less per batch than fast, high-volume methods. We do it anyway, because the product it produces is genuinely different.

Transparency — Our cGMP certification and third-party testing are not marketing claims. They are systems we have built because accountability is not optional when people trust you with their health.

Community — The customers who have been with us for twenty years are not statistics. They are the reason this company exists.
